Meet Jess and Nick, an awesome couple who were looking for any sort of help with their first dance. They danced to a romantic country song, ‘Then,’ by Brad Paisley at the beautiful Lakehouse Inn in Perkasie, Pennsylvania. Let’s face it, dancing a First Dance is not everyone’s favorite part of the wedding process, but a moment that I think a lot of guests look forward to. Jess and Nick described themselves as ‘horrible’ dancers, which turned out to not be true! The biggest challenge is overcoming any nerves and getting to the first lesson. A great instructor should make you feel comfortable learning these new skills and have a fun time doing it. After the first lesson, Jess said that “We actually looked way better than I thought! Last night I asked Nick if he’d consider another lesson, and he actually said yes!! I sent him the video this morning, so I think he’ll cave after he watches it! Thanks again – it really was a lot of fun!”
We are happy to report that Jess wrote us a stellar review after the wedding: “I am SO glad we went to “Your First Dance” before our wedding. My fiance and I had no dance experience, and we were pretty nervous about it. Madeline was AMAZING and taught us so much during our lesson. When we got home, my fiance told me he never thought going to dance would be so much fun. So we rocked our first dance and have some amazing memories. I would highly recommend this to anyone and everyone!”
Congratulations Jess and Nick and best wishes for an amazing future together!Posted on March 10, 2017
Meet Brigita and Tony, the energetic and fun couple who came to see me for a ‘Dancing With the Stars’ style dance! Brigita and Tony were celebrating their marriage with a big bang type of dance, which included some dramatic lifts, turns, and partnering moves. A little background on the pair, Brigita is a former professional dancer who now directs a dance school, and Tony is a former hockey player who studies ballet. It’s not every day that I get to work with experienced dancers for their wedding. Most people prefer to keep things simple yet special, so I had a lot of fun going to the opposite end on this dance. That really allowed me to focus on a wide mix of choreographic tools such as unique partnering, musical phrases, and different spacings and orientations. Their song, “You Make Me Feel So Young,” was aptly chosen to suit them. Bravo Brigita and Tony! You look amazing! -Rebecca

YourFirstDance would like to welcome Jun to the team. She will be dancing with our California clients!
Hi, I’m Jun! I’ve always been excited about weddings. The union of two people for a lifetime is truly special, and I want to help you make some amazing memories. I’m a professional dancer and choreographer and hold a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from the Boston Conservatory. In addition to working with many companies in New York and L.A, I’ve toured internationally multiple times, been dance captain for two musicals, and choreographed multiple flash mobs for dancers and non-dancers. My creations have been commissioned by Google in collaboration with Improv Everywhere; seen on the runway at New York Fashion Week and numerous public parks and city streets. I’ve worked with acrobats, dancers, models as well as accountants, communications managers, tax lawyers, disabled elders and every kind of person in between. Everyone can dance and I will customize your dance to make sure you look and feel your unique best. I want you to have a wonderful dancing celebration on your special day. Let’s make it happen!
When Brittany first wrote to us about choreographing a dance for their winter wedding, she talked about her groom’s St. Lucian heritage, zouk love dancing, and how she needs to learn that body roll booty pop! Not many people know about Zouk dance, but it’s a very sexy, mostly improvised dance where the dancers stay connected, roll their bodies together, and pop their hips to the back. Brittany and Paul’s wedding dance resulted in a choreographed mash-up of Zouk, Kizomba, and Salsa dancing. We laughed a lot in our lessons as Paul’s silliness came out, and played with some fun rhythms, foot patterns, and turns. This is definitely the sexiest and most unique dance we have choreographed yet and I love it when we can create a dance that is so one-of-a-kind and special to the couple. Brittany and Paul did a wonderful job and most importantly, had a great time learning and performing their first dance together!

Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’ has become quite the popular song choice for first dances. Rightly so, it’s a romantic and beautiful song with lyrics that say ‘we found love right where we are.’ And have you seen the music video for this song? It’s a sexy, contemporary style dance performed by professional dancers with all sorts of challenging partnering and dance technique. Youtube shows us that many brides and grooms have copied and tried to recreate this dance on their own. We do not recommend this, you need Moore Choreography!
So when our awesome couple, Alta and Evan, decided to dance to ‘Thinking Out Loud,’ we made an original dance that was basic in structure but very entertaining and quite impressive. Neither of them had dance experience and wanted to keep it simple, so we did a slow cha cha pattern and added multiple flourishes of turns, lifts, and dips. Alta and Evan were determined to nail the dance and had great focus for practice in between lessons, plus they were so fun to work with! Their commitment made a huge difference as they were comfortable and confident to the point of being able to hold a conversation and smile while doing the steps. Alta and Evan looked amazing and we are so proud of the job they did!
Alta and Evan danced a fully choreographed piece that was beautiful and not overdone. A lot of couples write to us expressing hesitancy about doing a structured dance. Choreography does not have to be cheesy, stiff, or strained. Rather, choreography is a sequence of steps, a guideline to follow, patterns that go together to create a story or invoke an emotion. With preparation, you can look more natural, comfortable, and at your absolute best. We believe that dance lessons are just as necessary as the photographer, band, and flowers in order to complete your most memorable wedding day. And as Alta and Evan said, “The lessons were a lot of fun and the practice made our first dance even more special. I highly recommend using Moore Choreography!”
“Our first dance is one of my favorite memories from our wedding. Rebecca did an amazing job choreographing a fun and romantic dance that was exactly what we wanted. She was incredibly flexible with scheduling our lessons, and she also fit in a lesson for the mother-son dance. The lessons were a lot of fun and the practice made our first dance even more special. I highly recommend using Moore Choreography!” – Alta & Evan

Imagine all the cheering at the start of Ashley and Joe’s wedding reception when Joe danced out with his bride in his full firefighter gear. They showed off their fun and outgoing personalities with an entrance dance to ‘Uptown Funk’ and got all their wedding guests excited to join them in the party. Someone must have called the fireman because their dance was smokin’ hot! (Sorry we just had to say it!)
Not only did our couple do an entrance dance, but they also went all out in a fully choreographed first dance to ‘Faithfully’ by Journey. Ashley and Joe looked confident and effortless in their romantic and elegant dance filled with intricate turns and patterns. The most dramatic moment was when Joe lifted Ashley over his head into the air and smoothly carried her across the dance floor. The bride and groom were amazingly dedicated to practicing their dances and genuinely enjoyed the time spent together learning a new skill. Well, it paid off because they not only received rave reviews from their guests, but more importantly, created lasting memories on their wedding day.
See what Ashley and Joe had to say about their experience. Thank you for your glowing review!
“Everyone absolutely loved our dances and could not believe we kept them a secret. Thank you again! We loved working with you. Dancing together was something we both always wanted to do, we never thought we’d get the opportunity to learn together. You were able to give us that opportunity and more! We really enjoyed coming to lessons, and liked that you quickly learned how we learned best and worked patiently with us. You made the entire experience a lot of fun, and we truly enjoyed practicing our dance at home. On our wedding day, we were both so comfortable with our dance and how it would work in our venue since you were able to come out to Bear Creek and work with us there. It could not have been more perfect! I loved the looks on everyone’s faces as we began to dance. It was definitely a memorable moment for everyone! We wish we could get married again just to learn more!! ” – Ashley and Joe
Congratulations to our very special couple, YOU GUYS ROCKED IT!

It’s party time!! Meet our cool couple from Philadelphia, Anna and Mike. They didn’t want to do a slow or sentimental dance, but sought to surprise their guests with a first dance flash mob. Because Anna is from Germany, she naturally wanted to use some upbeat German dance music to showcase her individuality. We taught Mike’s groomsmen the flash mob dance in the studio and made an instructional video for Anna’s bridesmaids in Germany to watch and learn. Their wedding party did a fabulous job and the end result is a super fun dance you have got to see! Congratulations, we had a blast choreographing your flash mob first dance!Posted on October 22, 2015

Back in January 2015, we choreographed a custom wedding dance for a couple who lives in South Dakota. We filmed the dance with how-to instructions and sent it to them online. After their wedding, they surprised us with this amazing recap of their experience and shared these beautiful photos and video of their special day. We watched their wedding video with huge smiles and admittedly some watery eyes, what an incredible job they did! This is why we love our job so much. Let’s keep on spreading the joy of dance around the globe! Click on the link below to watch video.
“We just wanted to send you a great big thank you! Because of your willingness to create and choreograph our first dance and lessons on DVD, we were able to surprise and “wow” our children and grandchildren at our wedding 2 weeks ago! You somehow made both of us, with two left feet, and absolutely no dance experience, look like we knew exactly what we were doing! When we started looking for a dance company to create our first dance, we spoke to dozens and none of them were willing to create a DVD for us to practice at home. We live on a ranch 115 miles from the nearest city and dance studio and even the dance studios in that area did not have time or availability to give us private lessons for our dance. Your willingness to work with us made our day so much more special! The kids will remember it always and they even said after we finished, “Grandma and Grandpa got some moves!” We are sad it is over and enjoyed the months of practicing with your DVD, laughing and having that time together. We even talked about having you choreograph another one for us just for fun! Despite our lack of skill and experience, as well as our ages, we were able to follow along with your lessons step by step and learn. It was professional, fun, and exactly what we described to you we needed and we even pulled off the big lift! Thanks again! We just received this little 3 minute web link of our day with a snapshot of the dance in it! We might not be your most shining students but it was absolutely perfect for us! Thanks again and here is the link if you would like to see some of your work in action!”

So you want to surprise your family and friends with a memorable first dance but don’t know where to start? Take a look at our couple Kristina and Jon and their epic first dance! They took a few basic ballroom dance lessons in the past but still did not know where to begin. We decided to combine two ideas into one dance because they loved tango dancing and also wanted to use the song ‘A Thousand Years’ which is no doubt a very classic waltz. The result was an amazing dance with a fun twist when the DJ scratch sounded and they switched from their waltz to a surprise tango.
Learning a wedding dance is a new skill which requires time and practice. Our clients find that the time dancing together is fun and builds up their confidence moving in front of other people. After our sessions together, it turns out that the dancing is not the hardest part, it’s keeping the secret!
Tell us what you think. As a guest at a wedding which do you prefer to see? Choreography, an improvised sway or perhaps something in between?
Photography by Tina Jay.
“Our dance went off without a hitch…it was absolutely amazing. We can’t thank you enough for helping us to “wow” our family and friends. We had a ton of compliments and “how did you learn to dance like that?” Thank you again for something we will never forget!” – Kristina
